The practice · est. 2012
Site before style.
Fieldwork is a fourteen-person studio in Seattle that walks the ground before drawing the line. We design buildings to be maintained, argued with, and kept — not just photographed.
Four principles
What we hold to.
Site before style
Every project starts with the ground. If the building could be anywhere, it is not finished.
Details you can fix
We design for the person who will maintain the building in twenty years, not the photograph taken on day one.
Build less, better
Square metres are a budget like any other. Fewer, better rooms beat more, worse ones every time.
Public by default
Civic work gets our best architects and our best prices. The public realm is not a loss leader; it is the point.

The studio
Four of the fourteen.
Ingrid Halvorsen

Partner · Technical
Runs the technical team and the maintenance database. Believes every detail is a promise to the janitor.
Elin Park
Partner · Design
Leads concept design and the competitions desk. Keeps the single diagram honest.
Jonas Reyes
Associate
Site architect on the large builds. Known for the weekly site report nobody wants to skip.
Work with us
Tell us about the ground.
Feasibility, full design, or a rescue of a building that deserves better — the first conversation is on us.
