The trip

Horton Plains is Sri Lanka at its wildest: a high misty grassland where the paths are shared with sambar deer, and where the land simply ends at a cliff that drops 870 metres into the lowlands. We walk Baker's Falls and World's End before the clouds roll in at ten, then warm up with tea and a long lunch.

Highlights

  • The famous 9km loop to World's End
  • Baker's Falls and the cloud forest
  • Sambar deer & rare highland birds
  • Sunrise over the plains from the trailhead
  • Warm fire, tea & scones to finish

More of the high country.

Up here, the air is thinner, the tea is greener, and the views go on forever.
